The European Union defines climate action as "the efforts taken to combat climate change and its impacts".
These efforts include climate mitigation — reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and climate adaptation — preparing for and adjusting to the "current effects of climate change and the predicted impacts in the future".
This transformation requires a dramatic shift away from our traditional economy, and towards one which recognises the urgency of the climate crisis and builds a strong ecosystem to drive sustainable solutions forward.
Action by all stakeholders within the ecosystem is needed – not only social entrepreneurs, but also experts, strategic corporate partners, financers, researchers, and policy makers.
Funded as part of the ‘Nachhaltig Wirken’ programme by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the European Union through the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus), Impact Hub Berlin is taking on the task to strengthen the climate action ecosystem in order to achieve this transformation.
We hope to foster, and help others foster, a healthy economy for people and the planet.
We do this by supporting impact businesses, not only in the climate action ecosystem, but across the economy. Innovation and collaboration are key for both startups and traditional businesses to address the climate crisis, which is why we bring together various actors into a network of impact businesses, traditional companies, investors, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders.
We understand climate action to be activities that have a positive impact on the climate or people, affected by the climate crisis. Hence, climate action includes efforts towards:
→ Mitigating climate change, for example, through energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
→ Adapting to the impacts of climate change
→ Sustainable use and protection of water, marine, and fossil resources
→ Transitioning to a circular economy
→ Preventing and reducing pollution
→ Protecting and restoring biodiversity, regeneration, and ecosystems
→ Climate justice and security, which intersects with diversity, inclusion, and participation
Our work aims to expand and strengthen the climate action ecosystem through a variety of activities, including networking, peer-to-peer learning, and information-sharing opportunities. These activities are delivered within a three-module framework:
Networking and exchange events that bring stakeholders together.
A digital learning platform and workshops for climate action.
Development of an annual trend report.
Under the module ‘Connect’ we create spaces for different ecosystem stakeholders to come together to exchange, network, and form foundations for transformative collaboration.
Our various event formats include:
💼 Industry Roundtables
🎤 Startup Pitches
🤝 Networking Events
🗣️ Impact Talks

Our module ‘Enable’ is all about supporting impact-driven founders, startups, and enthusiasts. This is why we created our free digital learning platform & workshop series: RISE Academy.
What is RISE Academy?
RISE stands for Regenerative Innovation & Sustainable Entrepreneurship.
RISE Academy’s goal is to help you build and scale your work with a climate action focus.
RISE Academy is a free platform designed for changemakers who want the best of both worlds — online courses for flexibility and in-person workshops for hands-on learning.
Learn from expert coaches at your own pace online, always for free!
You can then take your skills further with interactive workshops — both at Impact Hub Berlin’s headquarters or online, where you can connect with the very experts who designed the courses, alongside like-minded changemakers.
OUR LEARNING PLATFORM WILL BE LIVE SOON.
